"TAKEN FOR GRANTED"

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED?
If you plug this into a Google Search this is what you will find. Web definitions- Axiomatic: evident without proof or argument; "an axiomatic truth"; "we hold these truths to be self-evident". The Urban dictionary has this listed as a definition; To expect someone or something to be always available to serve in some way without thanks or recognition; to value someone or something too lightly.

This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend. It is called the unofficial beginning of summer. Many people take time to get together with their family and celebrate life. But who do we have to thank for the blessings of freedom. May they never be taken for granted. Having served in the US Army I understand what it takes to train for fighting "enemies foreign and domestic". When you are in the military you must learn to the orders of those who are above you in the chain of command. There are times when your very life may depend on relying on orders given by that commander.

The private must trust the squad leader, who must trust the platoon sergeant, who must trust the company commander and so on up the chain of command.  Each relationship depends on the ability to trust. When we drive down the road we trust the other driver's ability to obey the traffic laws. We trust the signals, signs, and maybe even GPS. How often do we think about those people and things we depend on to work, to do their job, and to do it according to the rules that bind us together as a society or community, nation or Company "A".

When it comes to "living and building our faith and connection to Jesus", where do we take "trust for granted"? Children trust their parents wisdom, the fellow members trust the leaders and teacher to teach truthfully and we all trust one another to use God's Word to lead us to make good decisions. Please pray for those we trust.

Maybe a blog of remembrance or what not to take for granted might help. Can you think of other ways to keep from "taking _____ for granted"?  Fill in the blank with whomever or whatever can be taken for granted.  I look forward to your comments.
